A girl's gotta have goals. And don't believe what you read.
Emma (there's only one Emma isn't there?) emailed me and said she hopes I'm not really as angry as I seem on my blog. But it's much more fun to write in an angry tone, don't you think? Plus when I am posting about other people being stupid, I'm not actually angry about it. I just think they're stupid. I generally have to think you're smart to actually get angry with you*. If you're an idiot, that's really your problem. (Or people who care enough to be in your life and have to deal with your idiocy. Sucks for them!)
When I wrote to Jen (one of the many, you know who you are!) recently about my current malaise and upsetness with certain things (completely unrelated to anything I've posted on the blog because why would I talk about that on the web? how not fun to read that would be!), she suggested spring cleaning, or goal setting. I've already done a shitload of spring clearing out and yet somehow there are still clothes in my house that don't fit in either direction, go figure. Seriously those fuckers are like rabbits, they just multiply without you even knowing they had sex. I really have no way to get to goodwill with six bags EVERY WEEK so there's only so much cleaning I can do. So how about some goals.
Goal #1: I want to use up all my current "today's priced" stamps before the price goes up on May 15. So I can start fresh and don't have to go buy shitloads of 1-cent and 2-cent and random denomination stamps which just take up fucking space and never seem to get used up. I'm setting myself up for a handwriting marathon apparently as I have, let's see...after today's 7 postcard/3 bill extravaganza, I still have... 18 postcard stamps and 25 letter stamps. I figure I can offset about 5 or 6 of the letter ones, surely I will get 5 bills in the mail before May 15? This is going to be a tough one to complete: My hand is already cramped!!
Goal #2: Hmmm. Stymied. Goal #1 really sucked all the life out of me, just typing it in. I've.got.nothing. What have you got for me, peeps? Stupid Goal Ideas welcome. But nothing craft related as that's a goal that will never be completed.
In other news, I will be out of town for the second weekend in a row, this time at Maryland. Ah, talk about malaise. Generally I don't enjoy MDSW. I highly prefer Rhinebeck. It's fall, there is cider, and pumpkins, and it just FEELS right for wool. Maryland is generally hot and sticky, I burn the back of my neck EVERY TIME, there are dust storms and muck and no hills and it's all flat and gross and it's not as if there are actually MORE or BETTER vendors there, give me a break. Yeah, I'm heading out with the right attitude to enjoy myself, don't you think?
I wouldn't be going, I planned to skip this one from last year on, but given the chance to spend several days with Silvia making fun of people walking by in all their "I knit all five of the knitted items I'm wearing" glory... well that should make up for the hot and the sticky and the dust and the muck. Silvia, it's all on you, girl. I expect no breaks in the snark or I may go tumbling into boredom and have to go back to the hotel for a nap!
If only it didn't put a damper in my Buffy/Angel watching. Ah well. Off to see Grindhouse tonight. Now THAT should drive a spike into the malaise, don't ya think. From what I hear, it's three hours of a fucking great time. I hope so! *FINGERS CROSSED*!
*Except for people who personally insult me in their comments. Those people are clearly idiots but do make me angry despite my best intentions. Do they deserve my anger and attention? No, they are jackhats. They deserve nothing. Usually Melanie is the lucky one who gets to hear about them.

Oh lordy, I haven't ever BEEN to MDSW, but I can totally picture the must-wear-every-handknit-at-once syndrome. I've seen it at Stitches and TNNA and just about every other knitting occasion. Me, I usually forget to wear anything handknit or crocheted at all.
Still. Have a blast. And get back to your Buffy/Angel watching, ok? It's good for you.

When I need to be about the business of cheering myself up, I take it very seriously. I'm partial to manicures, really good take-out, buying flowers and going to the movies by myself as ways to pass the time during a bout of malaise. Sometimes it helps to get annoying chores out of the way, but not always. Just be kind to yourself — treat yourself like you would if someone you loved showed up at your door feeling awful. That's why I'm home 'sick' today.
You summed up why I don't bother going to Maryland, though I would love to listen in on the snarkfest.

I will bring sunblock. And try to ensure that there is a sufficient level of snarkiness at all times, if Silvia drops the ball.

I wish I could go to Maryland so I could hang out with you and Silvia. Sigh. No fiber fests for me this year - my wedding is Rhinebeck weekend.
I hope your upsetness gets better. If you need a vacation to Athens where you de-stress by teaching me to make a quilt, YOU TOTALLY CAN DO THAT. I would do that for you. :)

You know what I do when the stapm price goes up? I just stick two of the old stamps on the letters I'm sending, because I'd rather pay 36 extra cents or whatever than haul my lazy ass to the post office to get the 2-cent ones. I figure I'm saving the gas so it evens out.
I was not too lazy to haul my ass to the PO yesterday though: your package is on the way. I prioritied it, so, tomorrow maybe?

I don't go to Maryland for exactly those reasons, but now I almost wish I were going, to hang with you guys. Oh well. There will be Rhinebeck.
Have a good time if possible.

Damnit girl! I keep living in my 39 cent stamp oblivion until you bring it up.
Actually I have to thank you for that b/c for some reason it reminded me that I hadn't mailed in my rent check.
Sorry about the malaise/upsetness. That's pretty much been the last 3 years of my life. This post-law-school-life better be hella good b/c I don't konw how much more of this I can take?

Wait...stamps are going up AGAIN? Are you fucking kidding me? Didn't they just go up five minutes ago? Crap.

What is going on in Maryland this weekend? I live in Maryland...

I'll will do my snarky best to keep you entertained. Plus, don't forget the annual Nordstroms/DSW expeditions. Those are fun too! PLUS this year there's a brand spanking new H&M in the mall. You'll need to call The Salvation Army to have them come pick your stuff up. They will, you know. Your post really made me laugh! I rely on you guys for snark updates. Try to have fun anyway. :)

Crackin' me up! In my case, the fact that "goals" rhymes with "shoals" (as in, foundering on the) says it all. Hope the snarkness is continuously snidin' all weekened.

Goal #2: Living in Chicago don't you find that there are places you walk by all the time and think "I've never been in there". So a goal could be to go to 1 or 2 this summer. Any kind of place - bar, restaurant, store, etc.
I ride my bike down Wells on the way to work and pass all these cute stores (Pulp&Ink, Fabrice, Sara Jane) and had the day off last week and finally stopped in to check them out. It was fun! (The shop owners were not as thrilled as me when I told them but that's ok).
I bought some Forever stamps yesterday. :)

Ashley cracked me up with the stamp comment. That's what I do too.
Re: the attire. It's pretty bad at the quilt shows too. Good thing it's just one weekend because I've had my fill of denim jumpers, tennis shoes and red hats, or hats covered with quilting slogan buttons. And the quilted jackets that make you look like you're wearing a bedspread.

Eleanor's wednesday preschool class is right next door to a bunch of elderly women taking a knitting class and GOOD LORD! Listening to them talk up their skills and projects before class is now the highlight of my wednesdays. Unfortunately, my snarking partner (Eleanor) is still mostly unsnarkey.
goals? isn't it about time to start planning a trip west?
glad to be your go to girl for the comment jackhats.

Reading angry is more fun too. I also appreciate snarky, bitchy and sarcastic with an occasional cursy word here and there. We can't all be Pollyanna Sunshine...
Goal #2 - how about a tattoo?
