And occasionally I do get something done.
Ashley and I decided to do a non-raw-materials swap...and immediately I had no clue what to make at all. But I do have a pile of superbuzzy fabric waiting what feels like not very patiently to be used. And I do have a big pile o' denim. And I've always dug that vinyl bag in the Denyse Schmidt book although I'm not about to waste my precious sewing time fighting with a pile of vinyl. Can you sense where I was headed?

And if you'd like to be sure this is a bag sized for humans, here I am displaying it in my current pajamas.
I won't tell ya how I managed to (at first) make one strap longer than the other EVEN THO THEY ARE MEASURING TAPES WITH INCHES MARKED ON THEM HELLO! Or how my "center seam" for the bottom of the bag turned out to so not be in the center that I just wound up ripping it out. It was a Carolyn project after all, what did you expect?????
Wow, finishing things is so unusual for me, I'd almost forgot what it feels like. Now back to being lazy, where I truly excel...
p.s. I used the ruler fabric sideways because the pattern uses just one piece of the contrast fabric folded around the bag. So if I had used it "right side up" it actually would have been upside down on one side of the bag. And that would just be WRONG. You know?
CONTEST ALERT: Amy's going to give away some handspun if you can guess how much yarn she has... Since I SLAVED my way through inventorying all her yarn this weekend, it's really the least you can do for me.

I adore that bag! It's so clever!
And when boys ask what you measure with it, you can just glance down at their crotch and giggle...

What a great bag! I can see myself doing the exact same thing with the straps. Hope it was a fun weekend for you guys even with all the work.

What a great bag! I've been meaning to make one of those but considering my "make bag" list is already six miles long I'll probably get to it in 2010? At any rate it will at least have to wait until I finish writing five zillion papers and take my last exam EVER! (well, at least until the bar.)
and on the subject of lazy, true confession--I totally slacked one day last week to make a bag and now I am paying dearly for it. I now have 14 hours to come up with 25 pages of brilliance.

Carolyn, I love that bag! And I'm so impressed you could make it. I never sew, so I never have the opportunity to mess up, but I know that every single piece of IKEA furniture I have made has had one piece backward, so I understand the one strap longer than the other. But who cares -- turned out so cute!!
