A boy walked by me on Belmont tonight

...wearing what smelled like half a bottle of Drakar. It brought so many long ago memories flooding back, I just wanted to drag him into the alley and lick it all off his neck.

But I didn't.

Not that I'm a big Drakar fan or anything. There just was once a boy. Who wore it.

Oh I hear you loud and clear. For me, different cologne, same time period---are we talking the early 90's, by any chance? Last week, someone in an elevator was wearing Eternity for Men, and I got so flooded with memories that I didn't realize I had not gotten off at my floor til we reached the top of the building! E. for Men does it to me every time.

Oh God, Drakar. I used to wear that, in my androgynous phase. a.k.a. When I Was A Bowie Fan.

There were once a LOT of boys who wore Drakar. Far too many of them, and far too much of it.

Man, that's exactly what I was going to say: so many, many boys wearing so very much Drakkar.

I wonder if it's making a comeback—I swear I smelled it on someone walking by on the street recently and had a brief, terrifying moment of wondering if I was back in 1989.

Clearly I missed out because I have no idea what this could smell like. I lead a sheltered life.

Oh, Drakar, ugh, Drakar. I haven't even thought about that word/scent in years. Me, I would have wanted to knock the boy down -- in anger, not lust! Crazy how effective scent can be. Thanks for the memory nudge!

I knew many many boys too who wore Drakkar. There is one cologne that makes me puke and I never figured out which one it is. Whenever I smelled someone wearing it on the subway I always had to move.

No clue, either Claudia. Although, the smell of smoked whitefish always reminds me of my first love. He worked in a deli. . .

I loved a boy who wore Drakkar, too! Apparently, we are legion. Also, strangely, I had the experience of standing behind someone at a street corner who had it on and thus reminded me of the boy, and that incident (minus the brand name) became the beginning of my first (and I hope not always unpublished and only) novel.

I think almost every girl has a Drakkar boy in their past. I know I do. I got suckered into going to a candle party (like tupperware but candles) a few years ago, and Drakkar was one of the candle scents. I just sat through all the "decorate with candles of astronomical prices" demonstrations remembering the boy.

Even *I* have a Drakkar boy in my past. First boyfriend, ages 14-17. His name was Chris.
