I saw a rat the size of my nephew when I walked out the front door of the building this morning.

I hope he doesn't climb up the 8 floors to my apartment and greet me when I come home tonight. That's probably not the worst possible way this day could end, but it's certainly a candidate.

I forgot how much a social weekend can take out of me, in my old ladyhood, and I'm still completely exhausted. First dinner party on Friday, then Saturday lunch guests, then a christmas party that night, then on Sunday Heidi and Maeve (bearing homemade gifts! woot!) came down to visit for Bonnemarie's trunk show (awesome!). I scared Maeve a couple of times accidentally but for the most part I believe she enjoyed her sojourn at Casa Duff. Unfortunately Heidi went home to some very scary news about her brother. :( So we're hoping things turn around for the better there.

In other news: I still love peanutbutter. And the Hershey's Kisses "filled with peanut butter" edition are both yummy and only 25 calories a pop. Four for 100, that's a good deal, caloriewise.

If you haven't seen enough of me & the bean, already, here's a pic Jess took when she came to visit this Fall. Damn those are two goodlooking girls right there, ah ha ha ha ha ha.

Yeah, basically, this post was just a whole lotta nothin' cause that's all I've got.

Better luck next time!

Old-lady-hood huh? Me thinks you are still young dearest. I had the opposite weekend from you as I was still recovering from massive physical exertion the week before. Oldladyhood doesn't begin until your quads are so sore you debate how bad you have to go to the bathroom (squatting ya know).

well, I guess that's one thing I don't miss about Chicago--rats on the back stairwell. Ah, the simple visual delight of fresh rat tracks in the snow....

biggest rat i ever encountered was when i was living in new york and i made the mistake of taking my garbage down at dusk rather than during the day. the animal that greeted me came up to my knee, sitting on its haunches, while it's eyes glowed with a wild rabid fury. i wasn't passing that mother fucker so i took my garbage back up 5 flight of stairs.

boston rats are little peanuts in comparison.

Do you like peanut butter cookies, I think they're magic! I'm scared of rats!

What! The size of the little nephew, I hope, not the big huge what-is-he-six-years-old one? Is the living that good in your town for rats? Are they radioactive mutants that have espaced from that little lake you have there? Nessie-rats?

Maybe you should read Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere - you'll never look at rats the same way again, crafty little buggers they are. Also a lovely story to be reading around Christmas, I think.

Sad news - the Harpold Advent Calendar hasn't been updated since Dec 7 because Leslie Harpold passed away this weekend. She was only 40 years old.

Many many more calories than those peanut butter Hershey's kisses (didn't know they existed? Must check them out!) are the peanut butter cups from Trader Joe's. SO SO SO GOOD.

Ahh...giant mutant rats. Now that's one thing that I do NOT miss about DC. And I can vouch for those TJ peanut butter cups. Damn good...
