« Hi! | Main | So my 6.5 week teaching job ended yesterday. »

Hey look it's a finished quilt!

My Shiny Bee.

It's 93x93 post wash and a big beast of a heavy thing. I did wind up making more than half the blocks b/c of those spacer or "H" blocks I used alternating with the others but many of the blocks were made by my fellow Shiny Bee recipients (as well as my mom, Carrie and Kate).

A little closer-up on the pink diagonal grid created by the pink squares in the spacer blocks.

I loved how the pink squares in the spacer blocks created a pink diagonal grid around the other blocks and I tried to echo that by doing a 1x1 diagonal pink grid in the quilting as well

1x1 loose diagonal grid.

I did a very loose, organic grid though so there are lots of thicks and thins so to speak:

In order to include blocks from everyone, I made a pieced back also...

And yes I didn't have enough of that butterfly batik used near the middle (not NEARLY enough) but I really can't afford to buy any fabric right now so I had to make do from stash. You'll see I didn't quite make the back the right size so I had to add a skinny strip on the edge:

Those big plain blocks on the back are great for showing off the quilting too

I primarily used a batik-look print for the binding, but did include just a few pieces of other pinks from the blocks. I put the last stitches in the binding after midnight and had to immediately wash and dry it before I went to bed:

So it was 2:30 a.m. when I pulled all this lovely texture out of the dryer

At 2:30 am I pulled this out of the dryer and oh my my look at all that lovely texture.

I'm so excited about this quilt; it's more vibrant and colorful and just plain beautiful than I could possibly have ever imagined it would truly be.

A pile of quilt = a pile of love.

And now on to the next. I have two finished tops and one top that's all laid out but not pieced together yet. Gotta get movin'. :) Oh wait, I have grading and lesson plans to do! That's right. Those other quilts will have to wait until after June 14 most likely! :)

That's absolutely spectacular. The color palette is beautiful. That's the kind of quilt that would make me want to fast forward through summer to the fall so I could enjoy it to it's fullest.
