Dear Pain in the Toches (You Know Who You Are):
It is a dark and stormy night here in Chicago (no joke), not really a night to be taking photos. So you'll have to accept in your mind that all of this is brighter and livelier than it will look in this post. More poppy punch, less dark drama. Just remember that, going in.
So I'm planning to make this quilt from the Denyse Schmidt book:
Or here is a schematic of the layout:
Except, you may know, I am not one for beiges, tans, light browns or muteds (except in M&Ms, I mourn you light brown...).
SO, the background beige color you see there all around the other squares? That would be this bright red. (And the white accents around the squares would be this accompanying "beige" because using white seemed too stark vs. the reds):
While late night flash usage is making that beige look all spotty / it's not that prevalent in real life. The red & beige are both actually the same print / just different colorways / subtle graphing. Here is a closeup of the red:
OK so back to the schematic. All those "squares" of other fabrics that she's done in other colors of brown/rust/mustard/etc.? I'm going to do them in these fabrics:
Let's take a closer look, shall we?
And this last one I actually had to scan in b/c it was playing wicked mind games on my camera:
I was planning to probably just use those three, but there is a chance something else from the stash could slip its way into the rotation. Maybe something like this:
Sooooooooo
now that you know the deets, are you saying you do NOT want me to make that quilt for you? I mean, I WILL be making that quilt as I've laid out, but it doesn't have to be the one that is for you. It could always live at my house.
Lemme know what ya think, yo. And you other poor abused readers of this blog, hey, what do you think? Are you loving it as much as I am?
Comments

I adore that denyse schmidt quilt in all of it's beige/muted glory. oh, I love it, love it, love it.
one question, are you going to template piece it or are you going to wing it?
Love it!
this poor abused reader think it looks good. The last orange fabric looks like it wants to be in the quilt too.
I miss the light brown M&Ms too.

That one's going to be gorgeous. Really intense and vibrant!
Yes, I'm loving it! Big time.
Beige = blah. Those reds and oranges? LOVE LOVE LOVE.
I'd love it.
Those fabrics are most fabulous and are going to be great together. And I would absolutely use that 4th fabric.
Love that quilt design and the colors/fabrics you have chosen are perfect!
Ooooooo, I don't think I would ever think to use that pattern with those fabrics but I love it!!!
I am loving the quilt - enough to actually contemplate making one. Which book please?? Being a quilt virgin I haven't even heard of Denyse (oh the shame...) Being an autumnal girl I want to do the original, although I do approve of your choices :) Can I buy in the UK though???
