No Nano pour Moi, tant pis pour toi.
No Nanoing of any kind 'round here this year. Not that you were wondering.
Went to see the nephews this weekend. The younger of whom found my new darker hair so different, he wasn't sure it was me! Uh oh! Funny how I can't seem to take a picture of it that anyone thinks looks any different ("are you sure it's darker?" yes, thanks, I'm sure, it's a LOT darker) yet people I run into in person immediately comment on it and are taken aback. (Yeah, the beginning of French last week, that was fun...NOT.)
Also went to hear Phillip Pullman speak as part of the Chicago Arts & Humanities festival. Really enjoyed his sarcastic asides, perhaps more than the main lecture, which I found...was probably more insightful to the "undergrads"? I don't know. I thought it was good and intellectual and well thought out. But the main idea, and the subsidiaries, didn't blow my mind. It was more a "Yup, that's the way it is" then a "Wow, I never thought of that." One of those "you can really get down into the details" when you're explaining why "something that everyone knows but doesn't usually notice" works in a particular way in narrative.
Didn't make it to the movies as I had planned but did take a long chilly walk 'round the Loop shooting reflections and buildings and whatnot. Finally starting to get some chill in the air, my fingers were a little stiff when I finished shooting.
I was pleased, however, that I did manage to baste the mini quilt yesterday despite spending many hours doing absolutely nothing. And I got a LOT of reading done this weekend what with two 1.5-hour train rides and staying up late obsessing over teenage love and vampires... You can try to figure out what I was reading, I haven't had time to Snip it yet.
