Friendship Star Update.

I know I haven't posted about thi(e)s(e) quilt(s) in a long time so shall we start at the beginning?

There are five batik centers (four of them are on the bottom, and the four across the top are all from the same multi-colored batik):

It really bugs me how the light fabric always gets blown out in pictures. It is, indeed, lighter than the others, but it's not totally washed out.

There are many different background fabrics:

They are being put together in almost any combination, although so far there is one weak center which has only been paired with the different pink backgrounds:

They will all (eventually) be paired with all of the possible backgrounds they go with, unless I run out of something (background or center):

Isn't this going to be fun (ha!) to lay out, trying to make sure the same center doesn't wind up next to itself too many times...

So it appears I have 28 blocks done. (Damn, it felt like more!) Which would be well on the way to a 35 block lap quilt...except I'm making two of them and I've been making doubles of each so I know that each quilt has each combination all the way through. So really I only have 14 done for each. I have far more fabric available than would be needed for just 70 (35x2) blocks, but I may run out of steam before then.

They're a little frustrating to put together as all the triangles inherently have bias. But while the non-batik fabrics have lots of stretch, the batik fabrics have almost no stretch. So it's pretty much a constant struggle and there are going to be lots of fucked up star points that wind up NOT BEING POINTY. Which if it was a quilt for me would be fine. But given one of the perfectionists (and her mother) that one is meant to go to, and the fact that both she and the other recipient are crafty people... Well, there is a wee bit o' stress involved.

They just better keep their opinions about dull points to themselves, don't ya think! :) Ah ha ha ha...

In other quilting news, both the Strippers of the Orient TOPS are complete! Woot! Now to pinbaste and move on to the exciting quilting part. (Pin-basting an almost queen size quilt is going to take several hours for each one. Want to come over and help?) And I'm about to cut the border strips for the kaleidoscope diamonds and then that one will also be ready for basting.

I actually knit a few rounds earlier in the week as well (don't die of shock!). But now I must go get ready for the afternoon's photo shoot (I'm behind the camera, not in front of it!) and try to enjoy the tail end of this day off...

I wish people would stop fucking asking me "any plans for the 4th?" about this and any other fucking holiday. Unless you're part of a couple or have a family, holidays are just DAYS OFF. That's all they are. Good to be off, yes, but plans? No, they're the same as any other fucking day off, now leave me alone. Bitter about being alone much? YES. SO STOP FUCKING ASKING.

:)

I'm waiting for the Bitter Old Spinster parade to come around so there's finally a celebration I am really in touch with.

So could I have a float to myself in the Bitter Old Spinster Parade? I'm *that* bitter and alone. >:)

If avoiding fireworks is a plan for the 4th, then put me down for that one.

Love your color choices.

Did you know that I am leading the Bitter Old Spinster Parade? See you there!

These photos make the batiks looks really lush. Love it.

I'd love to come help you pin baste. Alas....

As soon as I'm done with the damn GRE, I'm actually going to start working on a quilt! Hooray! But just squares--no pesky points for me. :)

Love the starry quilt! Very pretty with the batiks.

Bitter old spinster parade made tea come out of my nose with the laughing.

Ohmygod, I bought a ton of the exact same frog batik fabric, and a whole bunch of fabrics to go with it. Used part of it in two bags, but haven't made the rest into a quilt. Great minds must make similar fabric purchases. Hey, I WISH I didn't have to have family plans lot of the time.

I can't wait to see the finished product! If only I had the patience... hahahaaaa. I'm glad that you do. The only reason I've "finished" three quilts is that about 75% of the way through, I get bored and then bring them home to my mother, who gets so tired of looking at them that she finishes them for me.

Your quilts will be gorgeous! I'm impressed by your artistry and patience. It looks and sounds like a very challenging project.

My parade would be bitterly barren on the 4th.
