So when was the last time you were in a room with 440 people?
And 438 of them were 24 years younger than you?
Since I am getting an elementary/middle school certificate instead of secondary (partially because I would never ever find a job as a HS english teacher, there's an extreme overabundance of them), instead of just taking education & core subject area classes, there are a whole bunch of content areas I have to have credits in. Most of those are accommodated by one's undergraduate transcripts: a college-level math class, a college-level history class, etc. But one of the requirements is a college-level health/nutrition class. Yeah, I had no interest in anything like that in undergraduate.
So I'm taking it now, at age 42 11/12ths, in a huge two-story auditorium with 438 18-year-old freshman undergraduates. The professor is the only other person in the room within even 10 years of my age. It is TERRIFYING. They mutter through the whole class, none of them take any notes. The syllabus has lots of hysterical commentary like "When you email me, please use respect and decorum. Do not start your email with "Hey!" or use abbreviations like LOL."
That said, even in just the first hour of class, I've already learned some interesting statistics and SCARY HEALTH THINGS. Did you know that if you have a second baby within two years of having a first one, the likelihood of that baby having autism goes WAY UP because two years (esp if you breastfed during it) isn't enough time for your body to recover enough folic acid & iron to support a pregnancy the way it needs to? FRIGHTENING. For those of you having (any) babies (let alone a second), anyway.
For several of our assignments, we have to track everything we eat (inc. measuring the amounts) over a three-day period. That should be fun (and horrifying)!
OK I've got some homework to do. Later!

I'm glad I didn't know that when I had my 2nd after 18mths of the first!!!
hey... no cheating about what you eat, ok?
yeah a health class would surely freak me out at this point, yikers!
I think a health class would be interesting. I wonder when you'll use some of the knowledge? Jeopardy? Pub quiz? Also, thanks for giving me proof that blaming my mom and sister for any health problems I have is valid (14 months younger you know)... :-)
that's freaky. way freaky. but completely fascinating too. wow.
Wow, I really like the syllabus for your class! I'm amazed at how informal students can be in their emails to their instructors.
I am sure your professors appreciate having a student who takes their classes more seriously! :)
