This is pretty much a kit I bought at the Chicago Quilt festival in April.
Except I threw in some leftover fabric from the Friendship Stars, and I used what they gave you for the border on the front instead and I wound up making a pieced back with some of those elements as well.
I used to feel like I had to apologize on the occasion that I made a quilt from a kit since i didn't pick out the fabric or the pattern, I just saw something pretty and said "Hey I want to make exactly that."
But then I thought, how is that any different than when people knit a sweater in the exact same yarn and same color as it's shown in the pattern?
I am much more proud and pleased with quilts I've made on my own where I picked the fabric myself and I picked a pattern myself and it all came together (say here or here among others) but quilt kits do make a super fast, super easy gift (considering half the TIME of quilting is picking fabric and picking patterns) and I still did put my own work and TIME and CARE into the ones made from kits (this or this) as the ones I came up with on my own.
So I guess I'm done feeling bad about it.

Yes, definitely be done with any bad feelings whatsoever on this or any other kit -- this one especially is just great. Man, I love that zoo print...almost bought three yards of it last week...now wondering if I still can.
So freaking cute! Feel bad about global warming or famine or something. Your quilt is fabulous and taking time and talent to make somethng for a friend's baby (or just a redheaded friend) is a beautiful thing. Kit or no.
such a cute kit!!! no bad feelings needed at all. glad you are done with them.
I love the giraffe sticking its neck up in the clouds!
no, you definitely don't need to feel bad about using a kit. the quilt is great. I love the horizontal borders. they are very very cute! I'm sure it will come to no surprise to you that I love the pieced back as well.
Very cute! I am with you on the kits. There are some great ones out there. Some have a ton of different fabrics that are so well thought-out, and there is nothing cookie cutter about them. Besides, 99.9% of people would never look at a quilt and think, "Oh, I saw that KIT!" :-)
