Old News, Worth Repeating.

So if you follow me on Flickr, you've already seen all of this, but can you really blame me for reposting it here now that it's been sent and (so wonderfully) received by the parents to be?

This is a layette for my newest cousin-to-be, due in March, but, in my completely nonmedical and unexperienced opinion, seems to be threatening to make his entrance earlier.

Booties are the stay-on baby booties from Melanie Falick's Knitting for Baby, both made out of fairly solid (the green more than the blue) Koigu.

The inner 30x30 of the quilt was a KIT (pattern + fabric already picked out for you) I bought at the Gruber's booth at a MN quilt show some years back. Gruber's is an awesome quilt shop near my mom's place in MN. The 5 inch blue border (making the final quilt 40x40) was added by me to make it just that tad bit bigger, so it'll be useful longer. I was very excited I remembered how to miter a border (very different than mitering a binding!) after having the last time I did it be over five years ago!

Quilt pattern is "Echoes" by Whirligig Designs (from the "Welcome to Our House!" pattern book), using the easy angle and companion angle rulers to turn striped fabric into echo-lined squares. As I said, Gruber's put together the fabric kit.

I've seen people get slammed for using kits before (rather than picking out fabric yourself to fit a design). How that's any different than knitting a pattern in the same yarn & colorway the designer chose in a knitting pattern, I'll never know. Frankly, when the results are this beautiful, why not?

I'm so excited by the warm reception this received from my parents-to-be cousins and so happy that this baby will be wrapped in family-crafted love well before I probably get to meet him!

OK off to enjoy my warm warm apartment on this brrrrrr chilly day. At least for a few hours until I take a chilly walk to the movie theater that is...

So FEAKIN cute. Tell your cousins to quit having babies until you make my quilt. I cannot compete with baby cuteness. So not fair.

Gorgeous. Just gorgeous!

(and re: Coinstar snip: how does a Boston T token manage to make it to a Chicago Walgreen's? Weird)

GORGEOUS! Can our family adopt you into it?

I would be interested to know if those booties actually DO stay on. That's a BIG claim.
