DVD: Annapolis.

Yes, fine, not a GOOD movie.

But totally satisfying in so many ways.

  • The myth/magic of military tradition = Good.
  • James Franco's chisely cheekbones and cut, cut, cut abs = Good.
  • Fat, funny friend = Good.
  • Donny Wahlberg (Man, I miss Boomtown) = Good.
  • Small-town, blue-collar angst = Good.
  • Boxing and blood and boys with no shirts on = Good.
  • Tortured father/son relationship = Good.
  • Sassy girl in commanding position = Good.

What's not to like?

Slammed as a wanna-be Officer & A Gentleman (one of the greatest movies ever). But some key plot points are quite different and make it not a direct copy. Although I'm sure I would have enjoyed it either way.
